Madley and Aston
Go
left out of the Car Park and left along the main road and over the railway
bridge. Follow the Woore road down a short way and take the track on the left
marked as a bridlepath. After 200m continue on an unmarked track, (Red Lane) and
pass two ponds on the left. Go through an iron gate and cross to another iron
gate. Go through a cutting into an open field. Pass through a gateway to the
left of a large iron gate and, keeping the hedge on the right, go to another
large iron gate and along a lane between hedges. Go straight on past New Terrace
Farm on your right, and keep to the right of the small cottage into the field.
Continue with a small stream to your right then veer left towards a footbridge
over the River Lea. Go under the bridge of the disused Market Drayton railway
and through a gate. Turn right after the bridge and follow the embankment of the
old wagon route to a lane. Take this lane to the village of Aston.
Keep turning left in the village until the road turns right and a lane goes straight on to Lunts Farm. Turn left at this point (at a footpath sign). Go between hedges for 50m then right and, eventually, cross a stile. Keep the hedge on the left and cross two more stiles and an open field. Go diagonally right and aim for a stile to the right of a large oak tree, and go straight across the next field to another stile. Cross the footbridge and stile and go straight ahead, keeping to the right of a pool. Go diagonally left here to another footbridge and stile. Go over these and turn left. Go over another stile into the disused railway cutting. Turn right for about 25m and go up the opposite bank and over a stile. Take a line rightwards to a point some 100m along the field boundary from the railway bank. Go over a stile and footbridge and make for the site of the moat and gardens of the ruined Madley Manor. Go left over the second bridge and up the track for 50m. Now go diagonally right to the field corner and over a stile on to a road. Go left along the road for about 1.5km to a footbridge over the railway. Go over this bridge and into a field by a gate. Cross the small footbridge and turn diagonally left to cross the field to another gate. Go down the track and left to Madley car park.
