ShebdonShropshire

 

Park near the Wharf inn, Shebdon. This is out of the village turn right and about � a mile you come to the pub. Walk up the ramp tothe Shropshire Union Canal towpath and turn right. You will see the ShebdonWinding Hole immediatly on your left. Continue for about 1.5m until you come tothe Anchor inn this is an award-winning pub. Go up on the bridge (no. 42) andturn right towards High Offley Church. After passing Pegs Farm on your right youcan see High Offley Church. When you see a public footpath sign on your rightwith a very high stile go over and follow the power lines till you reach arickety stile. Turn left along the road and then left again at the T-junctionsignposted to Shebdon.

 

High Offley Church is now on your left, we sheltered herewhen we were caught in a wonderful downpour. Even if you are not caught in the rainthe Church Yard is well worth a look and there is a lovely seat to have a restin the courtyard.

 

Continue down the road and over a small stream and past afarm with a green barn roof set back from the road. When you come to thesignpost for Shebdon continue forward to a public Bridleway with holly bushesboth sides. When you reach the road turn left and immediately left along thefootpath at Offley Grove Farm. Go through the gate. Here look to you left whenwe were here they had two pot bellied pigs in the field. Go through two moregates, then straight on along the edge of the field keeping the hedge to yourright. You shortly see a small copse to the right. The Track bears left alongthe edge of the field and you see the twin towers of the Knighton Factory onyour left. This factory was used to make milk products and they would thentransport the goodies on the canal to various destinations. After going up anddown a small rise turn right and cross over the footbridge.

 

You emerge at a man-made fishery. Go to your right andclimb up the hill keeping the house to your right pass by it and climb the stileto the road. At the road turn left and then right along a wide track. At thejunction turn left and going over a bridge to rejoin the canal towpath. You willpass the back of the knighton Factory and as you pass the warf think about thehorse drawn narrow boats that went as far as the Cadbury�s factory atBournville. Walk for about 1.1mile along the straight embankment section of theCanal to bring you back to the Wharf Inn at Shebdon.
